Case Study
The case study selected is referred to as “Ellen Zane – Leading Change at Tufts-NEMC”. It is about Ellen Zane and her journey of bringing substantial change at Tufts-NEMC. Ellen Zane was the Chief Executive Officer of Tufts-New England Medical Center (Tufts-NEMC). Zane had the difficult task of managing the affairs of the hospital which had been worsening for approximately five years. The hospital was financially troubled since it had lost nearly $60 million within five years. The market was tough and challenging hence it posed a challenge to Zane who was determined to secure the hospital’s market share.

There are various tools which I would use to analyze the healthcare environment. I would use SWOT analysis, PESTLE analysis, and the Five Forces method of analysis. The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) analysis would reveal the major challenges ailing the hospital (Aithal, 2016). The hospital management can focus on the strengths and explore them for quick financial recovery of the facility. The available opportunities can be explored while the possible threats can be mitigated. SWOT analysis would pave way for a better strategic plan to aid in the efficient and effective operation of the hospital (Peerally et al., 2017). The Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental (PESTLE) analysis would be used to ascertain the various factors affecting the operations of the hospital (van Wijngaarden, Scholten, & van Wijk, 2012).

Wait! 1-2 Journal: Case Study Selection paper is just an example!

After identifying the factors affecting the hospital negatively, the management would come up with a plan to minimize the effects to the facility. The Five Forces tool will reveal the various factors affecting the hospital in the market (Jain et al., 2017). The factors can be existing competitors, suppliers, or alternative products/services. The reason for choosing the analytic tools is to establish the cause of the financial loss incurred over the past five years. The analytic tools also reveal the problems ailing employee performance and facilitate the development of a good strategic plan to address the challenges.
