How the exercise helps understand the word of God?
According to the text in the discussion board, there are nine items which help a reader to understand various concepts in the Bible. The text revolves around Acts 1: 8 and it is clear that the items have been used in different parts to help drive the intended message. For instance, I have found out how the repetition of different words has been used to create emphasis on the subject matter. This indicates that the scripture or rather the message is targeted to the people of earth. Contrasts, as well as comparisons, have also been used to compare events which took place at different times and different places. This is used to indicate that some things happened because of certain activities or rather the cause and effect.
Furthermore, the text has enabled me to understand the importance of figures speech in a Biblical text. I have realized that phrases such as ‘the end of the earth’ have been used as a figure of speech to depict how events will turn out at the end of time. Such items are used to enable the reader to shift their perspective to the Biblical side. It is notable that conjunctions are used to join different aspects such as activities, events and even time. Besides, they are used to build cause and effect which in turn show the relationship between different aspects. As from the text in the discussion board, I have learnt that verbs are important since they help indicate what is happening.
