Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH)
Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) is a condition that occurs when the body makes large quantities of antidiuretic hormone (ADH). The role of ADH is to control the kidney on the amount of water it loses through urine. When an individual is diagnosed with SIADH, their body tends to retain much water in the body hence little or no secretion. The source of ADH is in the brain in an area referred to as hypothalamus. The ADH is released from the hypothalamus by a gland referred to as pituitary gland found in the brain.
The main leading causes to SIADH is those that are related to causing large quantities of ADH in the body. Common causes include surgery when one is under anesthesia, lung diseases such as tuberculosis, disorders associated with the brain and use of some drug types such as cancer drugs (Verbalis, Greenberg, Burst, Haymann, Johannsson, Peri, & Dave, 2016). Some other causes that are found to be rarely causing the syndrome are the disease of the hypothalamus, mental disorders and some cancers such as cancer of the blood, lungs, and pancreas.
Results of the Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH)
Common, resulting in signs and symptoms that are expected include nausea and vomiting, irritability, tumors, seizures, coma and some personal changes such as confusion and combativeness (Verbalis, Greenberg, Burst, Haymann, Johannsson, Peri, & Dave, 2016).

Treatment of SIADH should be followed after diagnosis. Treatment includes the restriction of fluids and diet modifications. Self-care through water restriction by reducing the intake to treat the fluid overload. Use of medications such as diuretics which increases the production of urine to excrete water and the excess salts. Other drugs are the antibiotics that are responsible for killing bacteria and reducing their growth. Other supportive care is using sodium chloride to treat the low levels of sodium in the body.
In conclusion, the patient should also open to seeing specialists such as nephrologist who focuses on kidney disorders, a critical care doctor who treats those in chronic conditions and a primary care provider who prevents and treats the disease.
