American History
The 1960s and early 1970s were so prosperous for women and ethnic minorities. This was attributed to the end of World War 2. Besides, this period was a crucial era for social movements in the United States. Several movements emerged and benefited females and minority groups in various ways.
The feminist movement which started in the 1960s supported women rights. Precisely, it loosened traditional restrictions on birth control (Tindall & Shi, 2007). A contraceptive pill was developed and approved and hence enabled females to experience sexual fulfillment even before marriage. Initially, this contraception was only meant for married couples.
The establishment of the National Organization for Women in 1966 was of great benefit to females. This group was founded with the intention of ensuring gender equality in the workplace. The movement ultimately resulted in several gains. Evidently, in the early 1970s, colleges were required to ensure equal opportunities for women (Tindall & Shi, 2007). Again, laws forbidding abortion during the first trimester were scrapped.
The Hispanic (Chicano) Movement alongside the Civil Rights Movement resulted in several gains to ethnic minorities. Markedly, the Chicano movement led to the establishment of the United Farm Workers (UFW) in 1962 whose fruits were realized in 1970 following the grape strike (Tindall & Shi, 2007). Migrant workers benefited by getting better working conditions and higher salaries.

In conclusion, the 1960s and the early 1970s was full of social rights activism; this resulted in change. The gains made by women included the legalization of the birth-control pill and the abolishment of abortion laws. Ethnic minorities benefited from higher wages, voting rights, and better working conditions.
