The Analysis of TheGodfather By Mario Puzo
The Godfather by Mario Puzo is a crime novel published in 1969. It is a story based in New York City and surrounds a Sicilian Mafia family which is headed by Don Vito Corleone. The story is covered from 1945 to 1955 and narrates the life of Vito Corleone. In Italian culture, a family is very important, and you will be surprised what one can do for family’s honor. In The Godfather, family comes first, and the novel brings up interesting facts concerning the same.
The title of the book is a reference to its main character Vito Corleone, the protagonist. In Italian culture, the position of a Godfather is of great admiration, affection, and respect. It has been given to Don because of his favors, his scheming power, and influence. The Godfather presents Vito as a model mafia don. He is a perfect Godfather and father, making him a problematic model for his kids especially Michael. “The Godfather” is an iconic book. Where the author uses a perfect tone to sooth the dark underworld ruled by the power with no democracy, this encourages the reader to want to read more
The author sets the major conflict between Corleone and his youngest son Michael. As the war rises between five significant families in New York, Corleone becomes more engaged, and his son Michael finds himself succeeding his father as the head, although this was against his intentions. The Godfather is all about rise and fall of Corleone Empire which is initially ruled by Vito Corleone.

The climax of the tale is when the heads of the major five families are murdered during Connie’s son baptism. Corleone’s supporting company are his three sons; Santino the tough, Frederico the weak and Michael, the right leader. All the characters are not two-dimensional; all have the good and bad sides.
In conclusion, I like how Mario balances his storyline and fictional side; he portrays the New York’s criminal underworld elegantly. Although the events happened years back, there is a probability that the facts are still experienced because it was presented more realistically. Unfortunately, I thought the novel would have a continuous storyline due to its coverage of about a decade, but too much is missing especially in the life of Michael. I recommend to anyone having a penchant because The Godfather is a classic mafia book.
