Hard disks have been increasing in sizes and reducing in costs in the last two decades. This owes to the fact that changes in technology have allowed hard disk manufactures to capitalize on the technology and produce increasingly bigger hard disks at reduced costs. It is vital that the upcoming discussion uses the data provided to examine the trend of hard disk sizes and costs before discussing the implications and factors that contributed to such trends.
The trend indicates that the hard disk’s cost per gigabyte has been declining steadily from 1995 to 2016 (see figure 1.). The trend declines sharply between 1995 and 1999. Changes in the price of hard disk sizes indicate that hard disk sizes have been increasing steadily from 1995 to 2016 (see figure 2.). A rapid increase in hard disk sizes was witnessed between 2006 and 2016.

The change in the trends witnessed above is attributed to improvement in technology and necessity. It is because recent years have been marred by discussions about big data, which forced industry players to invent disks that could store large volumes of data. Moreover, the introduction of technology such as the Optimized SMR Implementation allowed the same hard disk manufactures to produce bigger hard disks at reduced prices.

It is critical that that trend witnessed above indicates that hard disks could be eliminated from the market in future.
In conclusion, the paragraphs above use data to examine the trend of hard disk sizes and costs before discussing the implications and factors that contributed to such trends. It is clear that hard disk’s cost per gigabyte has been declining steadily while their sizes have been increasing steadily. This was possible because of improved technology and necessity. Judging from the trend, hard disks could be eliminated from the market in future.
