Introduction
These days there is a tendency of using conversational slang or everyday language in formal essays. You need to remember that academic writing is formal and also has its rules. What a person may say in slang in a conversation may sound perfect, but it will be wrong when it is typed.
Slang should never be used in professional or academic writing. These words are often developed from simple laziness or fads.

Text language may have ideas which don’t match with others. At times they are used by a particular group, and those outside this group may not understand it (Paulson, 2013). For instance, when you use the text language, abt, some may take this as an abbreviation which is misleading. It reflects a certain slackness or negligence on the writer’s part. Furthermore, slang may also be insulting to some groups or people. Some people prefer to addressed using proper titles or names. I would advise that you give the readers or the audience the respect they deserve. Believe it or not, presented ideas through the use of slang may lose strength and courage. Essays that full of drafting problems, vocabulary issues, and spelling errors normally give a bad impression. Hence it’s advisable to be careful not to use slang in academic writing.
Conclusion
Slang should, therefore, be restricted to chats with friends. It isn’t encouraged and must be avoided at all times except when a given style of writing is required. If a given character in the story demands the use of slang, then it has to be in direct quotes. You need to think about your audience and what they expect. You also need to think about how the use of slang may hinder or help your purpose.
