Can A PSA Help Reduce Distracted Driving Accidents?
Accidents from distracted driving occur when the driver’s attention is distracted by external factors such as picking calls, answering texts, or even taking a bite. Safe driving requires maximum attention because there are other users on the road. Statistics reveal that lives of people have been lost due to distracted attention of drivers (Office Of Operations n.p). Most drivers operate their smart phones with the bulk of them being juveniles. This has prompted people to undertake campaigns to sensitize people on the essence of safe driving. Public Service Announcements can play a major role in reducing in culminating the occurrence of these accidents. Graphic images are mostly used accompanied with a message meant to warn passengers and drivers of the aftermath of accidents.
These messages should trigger the conscience of drivers about the importance of safe driving (NHTSA n.p). They usually depict worse conditions than expected by the audience. Despite instant death, one may be crippled forever or even lose a part of their body. This portrayal makes use of Public Service Announcements effective since nobody would want to find him/herself in the same situation. Other forms used are short messages giving advice to drivers. Drivers are usually warned of abstaining from driving when drunk. This comes in handy by enforcing policemen on the roads to do alcohol tests. A contact is also issued out where passengers are alerted to report reckless drivers who seem to endanger their lives.

The drivers therefore take more caution in order not to maintain their reputation and deliver efficient services. The regular use of these advertisements serves as a constant reminder to drivers of the importance of driving safely. Some advertisements also feature the need to beware of road signs. Bumps are usually marked in black spots to alleviate the possibility of any accident. This really helps drivers because sometimes their minds are usually distracted by thoughts which obstruct them from noticing bumps or even sharp corners.
It is therefore advisable to keep using public service announcements as a way of promoting safe driving. This will in turn reduce the damage caused by accidents every year. It is important to treasure the gift of life.
