Can Boys and Girls Be Friends?
The friendship between a girl and a boy is possible but very fragile. Usually, in schools, boys play in their games and girls communicate with other girls. Boys and girls can be friends, but social stereotypes and prejudices often ruin the connection.
In the childhood boys and girls usually, play separated due to different ways of engaging in games (Moore). Boys tend to entertain in a slightly aggressive form of playing wars and creating the strategies how to defeat the superior forces. On the contrary, girls play peacefully with dolls imitating the model of family. In the age of seven, the gender segregation between children diminishes. However, many children make friends with the opposite sex because boys can be gentle and calm and girls can have energetic and dominant character (Moore). Boys and girls become friends out of school because nobody makes a judgment about it.
Boy-girl friendship is very individual, in some situation it gradually decays as individuals mature, or sometimes the friendly relationships become even stronger. In school, senior students often face teasing and harsh critic, so the guys tend to stick to the male company and pretend to have only sexual interest in communicating with girls (Moore). If a social opinion does not create significant pressure, an opposite-sex friendship between teenagers can become a strong basis for further male-female relationships.
All in all, the friendship between girls and boys is possible if the social environment is appropriate.
