The MORAL Decision-Making Model
In regards to the MORAL decision-making model, Gawronski et al., (2017), states that it is essential to consider all the aspects of the ethical perspective to ensure professionalism at work. The patient was brought in by a person who claims to have been together with the patient for six years now and has been taking care of the patient all along. According to the visitor, the family of the patient had disowned the patient and had no communication all along for the six years. The dilemma in the case is that the visitor is the patient’s lover and therefore it won’t be fair enough to deny the visitor to stay with the patient. On the other hand, the family has a legal mandate to make choices for the patient.
An alternative that can be possible in the case is to consider the family values, the patient’s interests which is her safety and quality care. According to the ethical code of conduct, patients should always be treated equally regardless of their social position and status in the society. If the family request is ignored, there is a possibility that they can file a lawsuit (Blais et al., 2015). On the other hand, if the visitor is denied to stay with the patient, it will be unfair as she has been the one caring for the patient until this time that she brought the patient to the hospital. It will be a hard task to weigh between whose request to agree with and act professionally.
On my side, the best option that can be fair is to give the visitor some specific set time to stay with the patient and after that let the family stay with the patient.

I will offer the patient about thirty minutes to stay with the patient after which I will request her to leave for the family to have their time.
The decision made has considered the ethical code of conduct as I am expected to treat all patients with equity regardless of their status and social stand (Mahieu et al., 2015). It is apparent that the patient and the visitor were lovers and of the same sex, but professionalism expects one to make decisions which will serve the best interest of the patient.
