Fascinating Psychology-related Careers
While sharing the roles of a child psychologist with my peers, I was fascinated to learn other intriguing psychology-related careers. As I explained the need for determining whether a child achieves certain developmental milestones in toddlerhood and adolescence as well as appropriate intervention strategies as noted by Wilmshurst (2012), I realized that it was amusing to become a recreational psychologist, a sports psychologist, and a traffic psychologist. One of my peers explained how recreational psychologists use art-based recreational therapies such as music, dance, and art as intervention strategies when dealing with clients. This sounded funny because a significant majority of their clients are mentally ill with the rest being chronically sick, injured, or disabled. As a recreational therapist, one has to apply different modalities in developing treatment plans to help patients manage anxiety, become independent, and integrate into their families and societies successfully.
Besides recreational therapy, I also found sports psychology to be rather exciting. Personally, I thought that coaches only have to deal with the physical training of athletes. However, a sports psychologist deals with the psychological well-being of the athlete by helping athletes to manage mental deterrents such as performance anxiety, poor communication skills, and intense stress.

Wait! Child Psychologist paper is just an example!

Besides, sports psychologists also help athletes to regain motivation after a disheartening display or when recovering from an injury. The interesting aspect that I noted about a traffic psychologist is the fact that they work closely with transportation officials, city planners, local governments, engineers, and designers to understand the behavior of automobile and road users. Apparently, this sounds ridiculous considering the fact that they depend on psychological theory to understand things such as behavior research and accident research.
