Class Discussion
Summary
Managing behaviors is one of the a common challenges that teachers experience during class lessons. Well, it is understandable that some teachers are naturally active in this area and might endure proceeding even with minimal student’s attention. Other teachers have to work harder to be effective teachers in behavior management. The cCircumstance in all classes for this matter, are different therefore teachers are obliged to quickly establish what practice works better with a particular group of students. From what I understood, a single strategy would not be enough to implement positive behaviors. Instead, it would take a combination of several plans to create a desirable atmosphere that maximizes learning processes.
The styles of managing classroom can either be proactive or reactive. A dynamic situation is when a person acts to create or control a condition rather than responding to it when it has just happened already. Here, classroom management is considered as cultural socialization whereby it is an ongoing process that incorporates both teachers and students seeking to understand expectations and goals. Reactive supervision, on the other hand, is showing a response to a stimulus. Management that focuses on intervention and disciplines plans to handle bad behaviors is considered to be reactive. The proactive strategy would be best and efficient in monitoring classroom disruptions.
Ideas and Techniques for Managing Classroom Disruptions
Establishing classroom rules and expectations is a useful technique that would help maintain student’s attention all through.
Wait! class discussion paper is just an example!
Rules are negative in nature and includes a list of things not required by the teacher, while expectations are positive and state what student have to do. As a teacher, I would incorporate this idea by spending the first few minutes of a lesson explaining the nature of positive reactions required to proceed. Typically, students are well behaved and attentive those few minutes of the lesson, hence availing an opportunity to state the codes of conducts. Again, it is essential that once regulations are defined, the teacher should remind learners all through how to behave by saying the benefits of such.
Teachers should be patients and one who understands students, and this is a technique that could help avoid disruptions. I would incorporate this by building a relationship that is based on trust and getting to know each student as an individual. When people know each other, they understand the principle involved and will tell when to behave appropriately (Ediger, 2013). For instance, this idea would allow students determine when to strike some jokes which could lead to learning interferences by observing teachers’ attitude.
Teachers need to take charge of their classes, and this involves letting the student know that they are the boss and nothing can proceed without their lead. The plan is quite active and could get incorporated by taking a moment to let everybody gets settled. I believe that such an experience will hit the students’ mind that they had their time, and now they have to allow the teacher to proceed. Once a disruption occurs, as a teacher, I would focus on the disruptive students by pausing, looking at them or using none verbal signals to disapprove their doings (Ediger, 2013). Additionally, I would walk around to create an atmosphere that there is teacher’s presence. Other plans include involving parents if need be, to discuss matters of persistent disruptive students. Incorporating other party’s intervention will create an awareness to the student that their mistakes will be reported to their parent if they do not behave well.
