Single Family Household
The issue of single-family household has evolved through the years. Until the late 19th Century, only a few people expressed interest in the matter. However, the 20th and 21st centuries reveal quite a difference. The media is particularly the major platform from which news relating to single family households originate. Progressive advocating for the rights of these families continues to stir people’s beliefs and attitudes towards the same.
Governments like Japan now provide financial support for the families in which only one parent is available. Several legal amendments remain in support of these families and their members. In fact, the government of Japan through the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, worked towards amending its laws to support the single family households. Other countries, including the United States and several developed nations also advocate for the rights of these families.
Initially, most people discriminated against the families. Often, women were the most affected demographic groups. Today, however, the matter has become usual and people respect these households like any other. Several movies and TV shows continue to adopt the theme of single-family households in their scripts. An example is Pretty Little Liars, a show that centers on Ashely, a divorcee who struggles to raise her daughter amidst strong substance abuse.
The future of this topic gets more complicated. Religious, cultural, political and technological aspects seem to have divergent views on the matter sometimes.

Though the popular opinion often carries the day, more arguments and legal challenges will affect the trends that the society will take on the matter. Children remain the most vulnerable amidst generational crises that will rock the issue of single-family households in the coming century.
