Watford City is located in the United States, North Dakota. The city was established in the year 1914 and is referred to as the seat of McKenzie County. First International and Trust principle offices are located in Watford City as well as the McKenzie Electric Cooperative has its headquarters hosted in the city. The city has a population of 1,744 according to the 2010 census conducted by the United States Census Bureau. The city’s population is well spread across all the categories of age and gender. A significant portion of the population falls between the bracket of 16 years and the age of 60 which indicates that the city’s population is mainly young and vibrant since the elderly population is less (DADS, 2018).
Besides, the statistics also indicates that the population is well distributed across both genders. This can be proven by their census report which shows that a total of 892 of the population were males and a population of 852 were females. However, the people who live in the city are majorly the whites as shown by the census statistics that 95.1% of the population is white (DADS, 2018) which in turn lives just 4.9% of the population to the other inhabitants. The second race that occupies the city is the American Indian and Alaska Natives who represent 4.4% percent of the population. The remaining percentage of the population are Asians, black or African American, Native Hawaiian, and other Pacific Islander as well as some other few races like the Hispanic or Latino and Mexicans.

Apparently, the city had a total of 873 housing units according to the 2010 census report. However, most of those housing units were occupied which represents 84% of the total units, and the remaining 16% of the housing units was not yet conquered which can simply be classified as vacant. This indicates that a large number of the people had housing units and just a small percentage did not. The 2010 report shows that 67.8% of the occupied housing units were owned by the occupants, 30.6% of the units were owned with a mortgage or a loan, 37.2% are owned free and clear, and 32.2% were rented (Bureau, 2018). The report also shows that a bigger portion of the owner-occupied housing units is taken by older people of 65 years and over of age followed by people between the ages of 55 to 64 years who represent 25% of the owner-occupied units.
The income statistics according to the 2010 census report shows that 74.7% of households earned an income that ranges from $25,000 and above annually and 25.3% of households earned $24,999 and below annually which indicates that most of the population were employed. However, this figure has grown spontaneously just a few years from 2010 to 85.6% of households earning an income of $25,000 and above and an even lesser percentage of households earned an income of $24,999 and below annually by the year 2016 (DADS, 2018).
Education is one area that is doing great in Watford City according to American Community 5-Year Estimates that was done from 2012 to 2016. They estimate that 94.3% of the population is educated, that is, they have attained a high school graduate level or higher. This indicates that literacy levels increase every year. Also, the poverty level is lower in Watford City since 8.5% of individuals are below poverty level which means 91.5% stable income earners.
The city of Watford has experienced tremendous growth over the past twenty years in infrastructure, education, economy, and population wise. The growth was slow and steady from the time census was conducted in 2000 to the last census of 2010, but this has changed in comparison to the last census, the city has sprouted faster than expected. It can be predicted that over the next ten years, job growth will have reached a mark of 33.30%. Population growth is another area to watch since by 2016 the population had grown to 4,596 from 1,744 in 2010 which indicates that this figure change to a huge figure in the next twenty years.
