CompStats and the Broken Windows Theory
CompStats and the broken windows theory are policing theories used to combat crimes. CompStats was first introduced in 1994 by the NYPD in New York after the windows policing approach failed to produce the expected results. The windows theory was formerly used to deal with minor crimes. It was believed that dealing with minor offences such as vandalism would prevent the occurrence of major crimes. CompStats, on the other hand, was deployed to provide timely and accurate information on crimes. Moreover, the deployment of CompStats in New York City reduced the crime rate by 76 per cent (Ruddolf, 2013). CompStats is effective in combating crime since it provides real-time intelligence, faster police deployment, accuracy, and unremitting follow through.
Real-time intelligence ensures that the police force near the crime get information about it as soon as it happens or at the time it is happening (Palmiotto and Unnithan, 2010). Police cars are installed with radio frequency phones to ensure that information is conveyed as soon as it is received to the nearest patrolling officer. Moreover, it makes it easy for the police force to make crime forecast. Crime forecast ensures the prevention of crimes from happening.
Accuracy is achieved only through timely delivery of message, and providence of information for the crime scene. The accuracy of the information provided to the patrolling police is vital to make it easier for unremitting follow-through of the suspects involved in the crime.

Wait! CompStat and the Broken Windows theory. paper is just an example!

In this aspect, the police force is provided with the identity of the suspect, location and time of the crime.
In conclusion, CompStats is more effective in combating crime through real-time intelligence, faster police deployment, accuracy, and unremitting follow through. Police departments all over the world should, therefore, use this kind of policing method when investigating criminal cases. Besides, it is an improvement of the broken windows policing technique.
