The time is one thirty o’clock, and am a happy man having accomplished a primary task for the day. Thirty minutes ago, I was a worried person trying to make time in a bid to beat the deadline that was fast approaching to book a flight ticket with one of the local airlines for a trip. As it is the norm, I logged into the airlines online booking system to enable me to book the trip by three to meet the deadline. I knew I had to allocate more time for the exercise to accomplish the task, because I had a negative user experience. Previous booking experiences were unpleasant, but what I loved most of the airline were their excellent reception and cargo handling services. Upon logging into the system, things were not as usual, because I noticed total changes in information architecture, when I realized that it was time to undergo a fantastic experience, because it was easy to locate everything. I realized the changes had positively impacted the usability of the system and within no time I was done.
It is at this time, when it hit my mind that the airline must have embarked on a research to inform the UI design, interaction design and graphic design of the system in a bid to realize more customers as the previous had a high bounce rate. Soon I realized that the airline had experienced a reduction in bookings as many customers could not manage to locate whatever they required resulting them to look for alternative airlines.

It was apparent that the system’s usability and use experience had been compromised by its complexity, which necessitated carrying out field studies, analysis of log data, and eye tracking to identify customer’s behavioral trends. It is quite appealing to use the new system for its excellent features facilitated my accomplishment efficiently. More interesting to note is that perhaps I am one of the users who contributed towards conclusions drawn by analysts through quantitative and qualitative analysis of my interactions with the system.
