Consequences of Use
Drug use is quite a contentious issue in our society. Individuals abuse drugs for several reasons and in nearly all cases, substance abuse usually serves a particular purpose in the user’s life. For example, people can abuse drugs because of peer pressure, depression, pain relief, anxiety to name but a few. Even though the reasons behind drug abuse differ from one person to another, the consequences of abusing drugs are known by all. Studies illustrate that the most effectual way to assist an individual with a drug use problem that may be in danger of becoming an addict is to get involved at an early stage before the situation progresses (Rieckmann, Kovas & Rutkowski, 2010). In respect to this, a number of healthcare providers offer to screen for drug abuse, hence it has become easy to detect emerging problems and intervention can be provided earlier on if needed.
I believe that therapists should inform their patients about the details of the social, psychological, and physical effects of substance abuse characters. This strategy is effective since the client can be able to identify the effects of drug abuse earlier on and seek help before it worsens. Additionally, having all the details included in the treatment of substance abuse is crucial. Clients should freely and openly provide detailed information about their situation, the therapist should also follow up with family members so they get the in-depth of the patient’s current conditions.
