National Prevention Strategy 2012
Significant progress has been made and is observable in areas like government collaborating in leadership, implementation of community programs, and incorporating healthcare into cross-sector federal programs (National Prevention Strategy [NPC], 2010). The federal government is seen to lead in prevention, focusing on the reduction of tobacco use while broadening access to healthy and affordable food. Health benefit programs got established since the year 2012 and included tobacco cessation or counseling along with medications without copayments. The Council in charge of implementing national prevention strategy has been working to create awareness and utilization of benefit programs, an effort to reduce the consumption of the harmful substance (National Prevention Strategy [NPS], 2014). Progress has been witnessed since the blog post, for instance, the introduction of a healthy Chicago 2020 initiative which is a call for action in the city of Chicago. Another successful prevention program is the million-heart campaign which sought to eradicate the issue of a heart problem. Not only the progress has occurred in Chicago, but also in other cities like San Diego, States like Rhode which implemented policies aligning with National prevention strategy.
While trying to implement a national prevention strategy, some obstacles need to be overcome like a belief that prevention approach might be costly than treatment.

Other barriers include time frames required for public health interventions, lack of enough information and information resources and challenges in obtaining patients information to assess risks. Regarding prevention related changes, I would channel many funds to increase scientific and clinical knowledge basing the efficacy of promoting health to a vulnerable population (Glanz & Rimer, 2018). I would change the way healthcare systems spend resources, and pay attention to prevention approaches, for instance focusing on preventing an aged population from risk environments. Some factors that affect people’s health are outside their control like age, but others are within people’s power to change (Pbert, Riekert & Ockene, 2014). Therefore, I would advocate operation of screening tests, vaccinations and educate healthy lifestyle habits to slow down the rates of illness.
