Introduction
Consumption expenditure is a critical aspect of a particular ethnic group. However, income generation is a fundamental determinant of the consumption behavior. Variation of the household income distribution affects the aggregate consumption rates for the individuals. Chinese descendants have lived in Indonesia for several years. The country provides a variety of festivities and celebrations during the New Year. The paper explores the consumption patterns of the Chinese people living in Indonesia.
Consumption Pattern of Chinese People in Urban Indonesia
Indonesia is deeply rooted in the Chinese culture which also focuses on the social norms and traditions. The Chinese individuals from Indonesia celebrate the New Year in unique ways (Ong, Ormond & Sulianti, 2017). During the New Year, the Chinese temples, houses as well as the offices are covered with prestigious ornaments and decorations.
A total of 2.4 Million citizens were ethnic Chinese in Indonesia. 0.05 percent of the Chinese were foreign citizens living in Indonesia who faced challenges in paying the cost of becoming a citizen. Representation of various Chinese Languages is explicit in Indonesia.
Besides the New Year celebrations, the consumption of sweet snacks accompanies the Chinese New Year celebration. Food consumption patterns provide nutritional value to the consumers and enhance economic growth and development.

In summation, it is therefore evident that distinct factors influenced the consumption pattern of the Chinese people. Income factors affect the rate of consumption of the various commodities in Indonesia. However, it is clear that the Chinese celebrated the New Year with various consumption patterns such as the type of food and decoration patterns.
