Chapter 1
Examples: Write down your observations and your reflections on the videos shown.
The videos prove how the occupational therapy is so crucial. Joe has gotten enough support from his OT. Furthermore, it is because of his effort as a client that has made him pull through his earlier situation. Harry’s case is an example of a situation that demands that the OT be good in listening skills and should be patient with the client. Joan’s situation also requires a lot of skills so that he can be assisted well. All the Occupational teachers have displayed a well understanding of their profession; listening to the client.

What is the COPM?(2pt)
Canadian Operational Performance Measure (COPM) is a program that emphasizes on an individual’s challenges in performing the daily tasks related to his/her occupation. The outcome of each is measured by means an interview that is semi-structured to recognize the difficulties in the professional presentation of a person.
What are the theoretical underpinnings of the COPM?(2pts)
The COPM has a central interest in the client’s occupation. The COPM initiates the partnership between the client and the therapist. The client is the one coming up with issues in his profession that are challenging to him then the therapist focuses on the client’s ability to perform in the available crucial occupations in his/her environment.
How is the information gathered using the COPM?(2pts)
About the collection of data, the interview skills of the therapist matter a lot.
Wait! COPM.revised1 paper is just an example!
This is because the COPM is administered through the semi-structured kind of interview.
How is the COPM used to generate therapeutic goals?(2pts)
The COPM facilitates goal settings. The therapist asks the client about their goals. The entire process does not only make the client identify the particular occupations that are a challenge to them but also it enables the client set the goals (Law et al., 2014). The COPM is designed in a way that the clients are taken through all diagnoses, the setting, and even the ages so that the process of setting the goals is structured.
Why is the COPM an outcome measure?(2pts)
The COPM is regarded an outcome measure since the interventions by the therapist are dictated by the client identified problems in an occupation. The goals set relates directly to the different scores from the performance and satisfaction and also the re-assessment. The central concepts that govern the entire client-centered practice are that the client must always be valued, what the client is in need of to be considered and what he prefers, must be respected. The relationship between the therapists and the client should be very supportive and caring and that the gifts and the know-how of the client are recognized.
Chapter 2
What did you learn in this exercise that might help you characterize your practice? (Try to convince someone of an outrageous goal)
Being listened to is what most of the clients want. It is therefore essential for a therapist to pay attention to such while dealing with the client. No matter how the client’s idea is, listening and helping in reasoning out must always remain.
Assumptions: Did the clients know what they wanted from therapy? How did the therapists facilitate change?
The clients know what from the therapists. As a therapist, you need to strategize on getting to know the issues that are crucial to the client. You, therefore, need to respect the values of the client, you must develop the caring relationship between you and your client, and you have to recognize some of the strengths that the client has.
Therapist requirements: Identity which principles are being illustrated in the interviews with these clients.
All the therapists are displaying the listening skills. The clients are receiving necessary information on how they can set essential priorities for them.
Chapter 2 Quiz
What are the core concepts of client-centered practice?(2pts)
The central concepts that govern the entire client-centered practice are that the client must always be valued, what the client is in need of to be considered and what he prefers, must be respected. The relationship between the therapists and the client should be very supportive and caring and that the gifts and the know-how of the client are recognized.
How does the client-centered approach differ from the biomedical approach with clients?(2pts)
A client-centered approach is an approach that involves the overall orientation to practice. It is not a particular approach or theory. It includes several methods being used. A biomedical strategy is a specific approach whereby the therapist’s work is to identify the challenge that the client is experiencing and mitigate it. The client in the client-centered approach initiates the change that he/she wants. The work of the therapists in this approach is to facilitate the change that has been raised by the client.
3. What are some of the techniques you could use to facilitate client-centered practice? (2pts)
As a therapist, you need to exercise active listening. This skill will lead to the growth of a therapeutic connection. The client will be very free to express all that he/she wanted to be addressed by you as a therapist. Utilize the time that you have together with the client in giving them room to express themselves as you try to understand what they wish and what they desire in their lives.
Name at least two client-level, therapist-level, and organizational challenges to client-centered practice. (2pts)
The problems that are experienced at the client level include the unwillingness that the client may be having in taking the responsibility of his/her therapy. When the client has this refusal, then the entire process won’t be successful since the client plays a significant role in this particular approach. The level of support from the family is another challenge at the client level. When the client is not supported by the family, it becomes hard to accomplish the process. At the therapists level the problems are; absence of adequate skills in interviewing and building a good relationship with the client and the expectations that the therapist have from the entire process. At the organizational level, the challenges that are experienced are the difference in the approach by other team members and also the fact that the schedules and the operating practices may be very restrictive.
