Torture is an issue that creeps back into the United States conventional political discourse. People have divergent views when faced with the issue of torture such as whether there are any good results produced by the circumstance to justify the evil act. The illustration of a suspect in custody who had hidden a time bomb which could kill thousands of people does not justify the use of torture to disclose where the bomb is hidden. According to Devlin (2012), torture is not a guarantee to produce accurate information. Additionally, it is unethical to torture a person to disclose certain information. On the other hand, it could be unethical to let moral principles and allow thousands of people to die due a course that could be avoided. Sometimes, ethically wrong actions that are a comprehensibly human choice to make are forgiven. As such, torturing the suspect could be the right thing to do even though it is unethical since it could save lives.
If the bomb would kill only ten people and whether the persons were soldiers and children, the answer could not change. Majority of people in the world do not agree with the issue of torture (Devlin, 2012). However, some countries support using torture to reveal certain information such as those actively involved in a tussle against political violence. As such, there is justification for the use of torture such as exceptional circumstances that could save a life. Children and soldiers have a right to live and hence torturing a suspect for intelligence would stop the attack that could take away the ten lives.

The cost of hurting the suspect outweighs the benefits of saving the ten lives of the soldiers and children. As such, torture is a justifiable method to interrogate and gain information that could save a country from a catastrophic attack.
