The Honorable Ted Cruz
Post Office Box 25376
Houston, TX 77265.
Dear Senator Cruz:
My name is [insert your name] and I reside in Houston, Texas. I am in [insert your grade] at [insert your school]. I am writing to you because of the concerns I have about the Affordable Care Act (ACA), popularly referred to as Obamacare. While the ACA has expanded and improved health insurance cover for millions of Americans, it is not affordable. I believe this because of the recent changes in the health insurance rates that have seen many Americans left out of proper health coverage, a factor that is important to the fabric of our nation. For example, the recent increase in average premium by 22 percent in more than 30 states is a worrying development (Cho 1).
The increase in health insurance rates has negatively influenced the self-employed, those who work in short-term jobs such as Uber drivers, and workers in smaller companies. Larger companies are able to cushion their employees in the wake of high health insurance rates, but it is the smaller companies that suffer (Cho 1). Even though employers might think that the government or their organizations would cover these increases, for instance, companies are passing down the cost to employers in the wake of rising health insurance rates.
A good example is the health insurance premiums for families covered by their company’s health plan that rose to $ 18,142, or an equivalent of 3 percent average increase.
Wait! Create your own Bill paper is just an example!
From this amount, employees must part with an estimated $ 5,277 (Cho 1). The sustainability of such increments is in doubt. The most affected people by these increases are the few who buy their own insurance, as the majority of people are not affected since their insurance is covered through government-sponsored programs such as Medicaid and Medicare or by their employers.
It is important to recommend amendments to the ACA to make it more affordable. Congress needs to amend the Act to make it broader so that more people can qualify for reduced payments in cost sharing, in addition to reducing the limits of out-of-pocket expenditures for families or moderate-income individuals. The administration or Congress should also improve the minimum value requirements and essential coverage to make sure that employees can receive a coverage that has a minimum level of protection. These changes can go a long way to cover millions of Americans.
Another change on the Affordable Care Act will require Congress to make the requirements of the health savings account program and the Affordable Care Act compatible. This change will take into account the subsidized offerings for health savings account and cover families and moderate-income individuals. Another proposal is for Congress to change the Internal Revenue Code that will enable small employers to benefit from the health reimbursement accounts, especially with the effective safeguards.
The aforementioned change will go a long way towards helping the employees to afford health insurance because they will be able to purchase them. For this reason, millions of Americans will be able to afford the health insurance. I highly appreciate your assistance and ask that you please look into the proposals and send me a feedback to let me know if your office is able to make the recommended amendments to on the ACA to make it more affordable to the majority of Americans.
Thank you for your time and for considering my genuine requests.
Sincerely,
[Insert your name]
