The battered woman syndrome is a type of mental condition that is triggered by prolonged domestic abuse. The battered woman syndrome and dysfunctional family violence are related to a great extent. For instance, when boys are brought up in a family where their father batters their mother, they will grow up lessening their stand on the issue of domestic violence since it has long been normalized during their social upbringing. Similarly, when girls are raised in the same environment, they will develop thinking being abused is okay (Auchter, 2018). When these children develop families, they eventually find themselves in abusive relationships with the ideals that have long been instilled in them. The cycle of violence refers to this cascade of violence that is passed across generations. Eventually, the children develop psychological issues.
