Critical Analysis of an Essay
As an environmentalist, I find the article “Foundations for a Green Future” really interesting and pithy. Penned by Qatar Foundation, the article looks into the state of the global society and fronts a claim that rapid economic expansions, population growth and overconsumption of the Earth’s natural resources have threatened not only the sustainability of humanity but also the natural environment. Notwithstanding, the article reassures its readers in the last line of the second paragraph that there is hope for affordable, viable solutions to global environment’s sustainability challenges. Up to here, I feel this article has powerful introduction moving from a general viewpoint to more specific claim, which is a critical grip for the audience.
Contextually, the essay is based in Qatar, and it highlights the pertinent contribution of Qatar Foundation (QF) towards the country’s environmental development vision 2030 by making sustainability part and parcel of the daily lives of residents. QF’s underlying mission is to unlock human potential and promote ingenuity and novelty. In this respect, the article largely focuses on programs that QF has adopted to impel sustainability in Qatar’s populations. A few of these programs include educating the communities about the significance of sustainability, encouraging the creation of a green urban environment, engaging students in environmental standards, and introducing youths sustainable development practices.

This article also highlights the role of QF membership organizations, such as QGBC, QNCC, and QSTec, towards the nation’s environmental sustainability efforts. Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) collaborates with experts to ensure green building and development around the country (Qatar Foundation, 2018). QGBC also studies market sustainability needs and trains relevant parties to support public and private sectors in raising awareness about environmental sustainability. QSTec, on the other hands, is responsible for manufacturing and distributing solar energy solutions across the country. The organization also supports initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable energy practices and the application of safe solar energy solutions worldwide. So, by extension, QSTec is also keen to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and to eliminate health and safety risks. Overall, the article talks about environmental sustainability from the perspective of Qatar.
The ability to present issues clearly using effective rhetorical techniques is one of the strengths of this article. Indeed, the article succeeds in convincing the audience that environmental sustainability is, in fact, a matter of concern not only in Qatar but also in other world countries. The author uses an ethical language with no grammatical errors throughout the text to affirm the purpose of the article as official. Both formal and persuasive tones adopted in this article serve the purpose of convincing the audience about the Qatar Foundation’s centerline claims. The arrangement of paragraphs and ideas in this essay adds to its strengths. Paragraphs flow coherently from one point to another allowing logical progression of the essay from the introduction to the conclusion. All these strengths plus others not mentioned here makes the article “Foundations for a Green Future” interesting and pithy to the reader. Regardless, one weakness of this article is that it does not consider the counterarguments towards its thesis, and that makes its overall argument to appear imbalanced and weak.
Overall, I find the “Foundations for a Green Future” the interesting to me, primarily because of its environmental sustainability message and how is written. I think it has taught me how to organize my composition and how to develop and to support an argument in an essay. “Foundations for a Green Future” is a powerful article, and I would recommend it more than twice to my classmates would.
