Critical Issues Children’s Literature
Through stylish language, fictional characters, and make-believe settings, children’s songs are an effective means to introduce to children critical social issues. Below are three songs I have created to teach children the sanctity of life, healthcare and the importance of education.
A Song about the Massacre in Las Vegas
[Title] We Will Always Remember You
[Verse 1]
This place feels cold without you
Where are you now with your tattooed skin and brown hair?
You people from Las Vegas (Wilson, 2000)
Shine on your way
How about a goodbye
Bad omen stained the city with blood
Why did you have to leave us?
[Chorus]
When the sun rays hit the mountain
With the glorious still calmed breeze
We ask God to provide you with shelter
We will always remember you
Shine on your way
[Verse 2]
God is the giver of life
We should say thank you for that gift
God, we will always trust in you
We ask you to forgive the wicked people
This life is full of promise
May this song ring on your ears
Forever and ever
[Chorus]
When the sun rays hit the mountain
With the glorious still calmed breeze
We ask God to provide you with shelter
We will always remember you
Shine on your way
[Verse 3]
Nothing could be done, but something should be done
Life is unfair, and death is her sister
God, please provide us with knowledge
To differentiate between the good and the bad
Why has humanity turned against humanity?
Shine on your way people of Las Vegas
We will always remember you
[Chorus]
When the sun rays hit the mountain
With the glorious still calmed breeze
We ask God to provide you with shelter
We will always remember you
Shine on your way
[Verse 4]
The lines are now drawn
We should now act
Call everybody and tell him or her it is about that time
It is time for humanity to address the pertinent issues
Let us talk about Las Vegas
Shine on your way
We shall forever remember you
The masterminds should not go unpunished (Wilson, 2000)
We will always remember you
Shine on your way
[Chorus]
When the sun rays hit the mountain
with the glorious still calmed breeze
We ask God to provide you with shelter
We will always remember you
Shine on your way
A Song about Health Care
[Title] Let Us Hold Hands and Talk about Health
[Verse 1]
Let us gather around people of the world
Let us hold our hands together
Because this is a cold world
Let us admit that nature is unfair
Let us accept whatever nature provides
The world is changing
You do not know whether you will be lying on your deathbed tomorrow
[Chorus]
All are invited
Let us hold hands and talk about health
Human nature deserves nothing but better health
Call the writers and critics to note down
To keep their eyes wide open
This is a once in a lifetime chance
There is no chance of losing this battle
We shall all win

Where education will be affordable for all

Let us all reflect on our future objectives

Not considering the relevance of affordable education
Why are we wasting time?
This is obvious
Everybody is crying aloud for affordable education

Let us look back and reflect where it all went wrong
Let us hold hands and break the barriers
Our interests are longing
For these chains to be broken

Ooh, happy days at school (Franklin & Savage, 2004)!
Happy days at school
(Happy days at school, happy days at school, happy days at school, happy days at school)
Ooh, happy days at school (Franklin & Savage, 2004)!
Conclusion
The three songs above are enjoyable and easy to sing. Thus, children will feel happy during the performances. Moreover, the artistic pieces will insert into children’s memory three core issues in life: the sacred nature of human life, the need for proper human health, and the value of schooling.
