What role does critical reflection play in defining problems?
Critical reflection refers to engaging in reasoning for the purpose of making meaning regarding an experience. It entails an in-depth analysis of an experience whereby one makes connections between several factors (Rigg & Trehan, 2008). Critical reflection enables the combination of theory and practice when it comes to defining a problem. It facilitates looking back at the consequences of an action that occurred in the past, both good and bad, and then identifying what has been achieved or lost and linking the conclusions to decisions that will be made in the future. It enables one to as the how, what, where, and why questions while putting into consideration the factors affiliated with a problem. By defining a problem, it becomes easier to identify the methods that may be used to handle an issue (Rigg & Trehan, 2008). In other words, critical reflection enables the consideration of various factors when making important choices.
What is the importance of understanding bias when diagnosing problems?
Bias is described as any action that limits the unprejudiced contemplation of a given issue. It mostly occurs when one favors one side of an issue over another or when a systematic error is introduced to a given issue when attempting to solve it. It is important to distinguish between one’s personal bias and a solution that is considered as favorable to facilitate credible reasoning (Hickson, 2011).
