Cultural underpinnings emerge from powerful inborn or societal features. Innate characteristics relate to race, ethnicity, and gender, while societal features include education, religion, and attitudes to public or personal issues. The video elaborates on both essential and societal elements influencing my identity as a cultural being. Primarily, my culture is African American, with strict adherence to Christianity and the Afro culture. Being African American has influenced my perception of the society. The history of the black struggle to gain freedom and other liberties influence my duties as a social worker. Blacks and other immigrant ethnic groups are marginalized in the nation, which requires empowerment through social work. Being a minority and marginalized has improved my understanding of the challenges the marginalized face in the society. Moreover, contributions of women are undervalued, and social work creates awareness of their essential functions in the community.
Cultural beings inculcate social identity into their personalities or actions. Blacks use their lingo to communicate, which as now transformed into hip hop or rap music. The success of blacks in the music genre illustrates the infusion of culture into the character of human beings. The afro culture has influenced blacks’ modes of dressing, hairstyle, and language categories. Moreover, the majority of blacks are Christians or follow a religion, with their belief in the existence of a higher God.

Consequently, social beings demonstrate universal norms and constructs within their culture.
Prospectively, I believe that social work requires an adequate understanding of different social constructions to enhance the success of the social work (Lokensgard, 2016). Social work involves working in different communities, with different inhabitants. Most Spanish communities prefer speaking Spanish; thus, inadequate knowledge of Spanish will negatively impact on the social programs in the community. Therefore, understanding of different social constructions influences the success of social work.
