Cybercrime
Cybercrime refers to the criminal activities that are carried out via network or computers. Perpetrators use computers as the target or as the means of committing their illegal activities. As domestic security and intelligence organ of the United States, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) seeks to protect the citizens of the U.S, from various insecurity issues including cybercrimes. This paper, therefore, aims to discuss roles played by FBI in combating cybercrimes.
Functions of FBI
Cybercrimes in the United States are dealt with by the FBI Cyber Division which is a department of FBI that spearheads the national fight against internet crimes such as cybercrimes, computer intrusion, espionage and cyber-based terrorism. In this regard, in the battle against cybercrimes, FBI is mandated or instead has the function of investigation and prosecution of internet crimes (Quinn 1). In other words, FBI tracks down the committers of cybercrimes and after that ensure that they bring them to book. They are to provide peace and order in various network and computer operations and ensure that no single citizen’s rights are compromised while using the Internet.
Duties, Responsibilities, and Administration
In fighting cybercrimes, the primary task of the FBI is to promote the security of all citizens especially those using computers and networks. Concerning the function mentioned above, the FBI has the following responsibilities. First, they seek to defend the nation against cyber threats, foreign intelligence, and terrorism.

Secondly, the body is responsible for civil liberties and rights protection. More importantly, based on the gathered information relating to cybercrimes the FBI is responsible for informing the public about the current trends. Cyber division of the FBI works hand in hand with NCIJTF which is another body responsible for coordinated and cohesive cybercrime investigations.
In conclusion, it is apparent that the Federal Bureau of Investigation plays a vital role in the fight against cyber-related crimes. They work in partnership with other bodies to ensure that various civil and liberty rights of citizens are not violated in any way by any individual or institution. In short, the organ is responsible for protecting users of computers and networks.
