Dangerous Occupations and Industries
Introduction
Apparently, as much as people strive to secure job opportunities to sustain their lives, some industries and occupations are very hazardous to engage in. The dangers employees are exposed to can be attributed to the number of fatalities per year and the reported number of accidents that have resulted from those occupations and companies. This is regarding the available data by the National Safety Council sites like OSHA.
Most Dangerous Occupations
Truck driving jobs
The occupation which involves transportation and moving of objects suffers more from fatalities. Ten out of forty accidents occur in this occupation. The hazardous condition of the road is one of the reasons for a large number of deaths. The weather is good or bad, it doesn’t matter, and the truck drivers have to roll all the time (Marsh & Fosbroke, 2015). In the winter season, the traffic on the road is not much, but in the winter season, they have to face difficulties like snow and ice on the highways. The number of accidents occurs in summer in all areas because traffic on roads is more in summer in comparison to other seasons as people prefer to travel more in summer. The places where the number of accidents and fatalities occur, there is the need for improvement in the design of those highways. Also, there should be training or classes for the general public so that they know how to share the road with trucks.

Agriculture industries
A large number of pesticides, antibiotic products, and chemicals are used in agricultural industries. For having a high yield of crops, farmers have to use fertilizers. The chemicals are used by the method of spraying or spreading. So, these chemicals can be inhaled by anyone and sometimes these chemicals cause penetration into eyes. In the warm climate, when the workers have to avoid protective clothes, these chemicals can come in contact with the skin and can cause many skin diseases (Brauer, 2016). It is impossible to substitute all the hazardous substances with less dangerous substances. Some proper measures should be taken as workers should use equipment for their protection like clothes which are protective, hand gloves, footwear, and goggles.
Fishing jobs
Additionally, fishing is no doubt a hazardous job. Strenuous labor, long working hours and bad weather are those conditions which a fisherman has to face on a daily basis. After a massive disaster, the number of fatalities and accidents increases in this industry and sometimes this disaster becomes the reason for the death of many peoples.
Construction Industry
Apparently, this sector is exposed to some risks leave alone the strenuous labor that is required. Among the many uncertainties in this sector are; Fall from a significant height while working, carrying of heavy loads, trips and slips, machines used can crash the constructors and poor working conditions. All these can limit the life of a person as the accidents can result in death or severe fatality cases (Brauer, 2016).
Safety Policies
For this case, my small company lies in the construction sector. Therefore, some of the safety measures include the following (Marsh & Fosbroke, 2015):
Scaffolding
It should be solid so that it can carry its weight and there must be a competent person while erecting and dismantling the scaffold.
Protection from falling
There must be the use of aerial lifts or platforms which are elevated.
Use of Ladders
Defective ladders should be marked as “don’t use it” so that cases of injuries can be avoided.
Stairways
Stairways should not be slippery, and if they are slick, then immediate correction is necessary.
Cranes
Before carrying any load, check the weight of that load.
Head protection
Workers need to wear hats which are hard so that they have not to suffer from injuries.
Conclusion
The safety of the employees, as well as the employer, is crucial, and hence it should be appropriately taken care of. The general policy for protection is to increase awareness for all employees on the possible risks that are likely to emerge in a particular job, and thus they stay keen and careful. Additionally, employers should play a more significant role in ensuring the employee safety is achieved through the acquisition of necessary safety tools and equipment.
