Comparing Republicans and Democrats Healthcare Approach
For the Republicans, their healthcare plan for 2016 was all about distorting the central elements of the Affordable Care Act. First, their healthcare plan proposed to refund tax-credits for Americans whose employers did not provide health insurance. Moreover, the proposal by Republicans also comprised of expansion of private health savings and charging less for younger people while the older generation could be charged more for health (DeBonis, 2016). Conversely, Democrats, on the other hand, believed in maintaining the Affordable Care Act with a plan to improve. Notably, the healthcare plan by Democrats advocated for health insurance for all Americans. Moreover, the Democrats also wanted to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, and increase funding for medical research (Democrats, 2016). Generally, each of these parties has a different ideology on how to approach healthcare in America.
In my estimation, the Democrats did a better job in articulating their health policy compared to Republicans. Indeed, the Democrats recognized areas of weaknesses of the Affordable Care Act and formulated strategies to improve. Republicans, on the other hand, wanted to do away with the ACA with no real plans of universal health coverage.
Currently, I feel that the Democrats is doing more to promote its health care policy as contained in its 2016 platform. First, the Democrats have resisted any efforts by the Republicans to replace the ACA as this would take away insurance from a million Americans.

Additionally, Republicans are still ideologically divided on ways to approach the healthcare issue as some of them are against the proposals included in the party’s plans for healthcare (Scher, 2017). Generally, unless Republicans formulate a clear plan supported by all its members, their current policies on healthcare will fail.
