Discussion
Based on the Team Leadership Model, a leader is situated at the top of the group and mandated the task of controlling, monitoring and managing all the activities in the team. They are in charge of coming up with goals and objectives which they then provide to the team for further discussion or implementation. Besides, they are in charge of assessing the team’s progress and the challenges they encounter at work. They are expected to provide a detailed solution on how to solve the problem. In the case study, Jim Towne is in charge of a workforce with a capacity of up to 20 professionals carrying out duties around the world.
The team encounters several challenges resulting from the fact that they lack a clear goal, cooperative workforce and a skilled leader. According to the objective of the group, they are required to come up with technological innovations meant to serve all global units. The objective is rather vague hence making it difficult for the team to contemplate what they are expected to implement. They do not quite get what they are supposed to do and the steps they will take to meet the objective. Another limitation in the firm is a lack of cooperation originating from the fact that no one is willing to set aside time to sit down for a meeting. This limits the ability to implement teamwork in the firm.
Gauging from how Jim conducts himself in the firm, he neither has any influence nor does he make an effort to influence the team to work towards achieving the team’s goals.
Wait! Discussion Case Study paper is just an example!
According to Spisak et al. (2015), a leader steps in whenever there is an issue and comes up with ways to solve the problem before it cripples their entire organization. In this regard, Jim needs to step in at this time, intervene internally and apply both task and relational approach. He needs to initiate goal focusing, structured results, decision making, collaborating and building commitment processes.
Moreover, he needs to take up his role of motivating and coordinating the entire team to help them improve their cohesiveness and come up with strategies that will enable them to adapt to change. Motivating the team will enhance the members’ effectiveness in working toward the set goals. Moreover, it will encourage members to work together as a team, prioritize important tasks and help Jim continuously get feedback from the team members. Bohlmann et al. (2018) recommends conducting employee evaluation to assess the performance of each employee and the progress of the entire team. As a result, Jim will be in a position to identify issues and act on them before they manifest and diminish the performance of the team. Also, it will help him keep the team on the right course.
