Week 3 Discussion: Heart Disease and Stroke
Heart disease and stroke are leading contributors to loss of lives in America. Combined, stroke and heart disease, alongside other cardiovascular diseases, are among the most pervasive and expensive health concerns faced by American today, representing nearly $320 billion in health care spending and associated costs per year (Mozaffarian et al. 2016). Furthermore, the leading modifiable risk elements for heart diseases and stroke are high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, overweight and obesity, cigarette smoking, and unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity (Mozaffarian et al. 2016).
Gradually, the risk elements lead to alterations in the blood vessels and heart which can cause heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure. It is vital to handle risk elements early in life to stop these devastating situations and other possible complications of progressive cardiovascular infections. The chance of Americans acquiring and losing their lives from cardiovascular infection would be significantly minimized if major enhancements were made throughout the U.S. population in physical activity and diet, regulation of high cholesterol and high blood pressure, stopping smoking, and proper aspirin utilization (Mozaffarian et al. 2016). There are also substantial differences in the mortality rate, treatment results, and access to treatment based on the factors such as age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status.

Finally, one of the emerging issues in this disease is the evaluating and communicating lifetime probability of cardiovascular infection.
The goals of Healthy People 2020 under heart diseases and stroke are to enhance cardiovascular health and life quality via detection, prevention, and medication of risk elements for the diseases, decreasing deaths from cardiovascular diseases, and prevention of recurrent cardiovascular situations (Mozaffarian et al. 2016). The CDC can play a role in achieving this goal by offering the knowledge and expertise in discovering, developing, and verifying new devices for the heart disease and stroke detection and prevention. It can also offer the knowledge for laboratory reinforcement and enhanced instruments for diagnosing the disease. The CDC can further develop existing initiatives and other public health programs that are integrated into the programs associated with the heart infection and stroke to offer scrutiny and research the epidemic of the infection (Mozaffarian et al. 2016).
