Do you really need English?
The vast majority of the countries in the world regard the English language as their main language of choice (Crystal 2). For many people who speak the English, this language has made life easier for them. As a result of speaking the English language, great opportunities have appeared in many aspects of life.
In addition to creating opportunities, many jobs in the market have language criteria. The English language has a high impact related to many of the careers in the community. So, one of the language criteria to the job you are looking is proper command and knowledge in English both in speaking and writing (Hiranburana 31). The main idea behind having an excellent command in English is such jobs provide opportunities not only locally but also in the international platform.
In contrast to the view that English should be a global language, there are other views that it should not. Citizens in other countries regard the language they speak as part of their identity. With this identity in mind, there are concerns that the continued use of the English language diminishes the identity of any community. As far as identity is concerned, many people are against English being a global language.
Furthermore, there are claims that the English language is difficult to learn. For most of the countries that do not have English speaking origins, learning the English language has proven to be a burden. From this viewpoint, the English language should be a global language.

In summary, English has over the years gained popularity in most parts of the world. Apart from opening opportunities and being a requirement at the workplace, there are other contrasting views why it should not be a global language. Despite the objectives, there is still the debate on other countries taking up English as their native language.
