The Government of the Republic of Guatemala, through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, presented the policy of conservation, protection and improvement of the environment and natural resources approved by the President of the Republic in the Council of Ministers through the Government Agreement number63-2007, for the issuance of these regulations, the constitutional principle that declares of national interest declares the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural heritage of the Nation was considered, establishing that the municipalities and inhabitants of the national territory are obliged to promote social development, economic and technological, to prevent the pollution of the environment and maintain ecological balance.
The policy of conservation, protection and improvement of the environment and natural resources aims to harmonize, define and provide the guidelines to the different public, private and civil sectors for the improvement of the environment and quality of life of the inhabitants of the country;The ecological balance and the sustainable use of natural resources. The environmental policy also seeks to conserve and protect the environment and natural resources, with emphasis on the generation of knowledge and prevention of environmental deterioration;Improve environmental quality, promoting the use and sustainable management of natural resources;Promote environmental restoration.

Guatemala’s environmental policy is given in compliance with the provisions of the Law on the Creation of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Guatemala, Article 3 of Decree 90-2000 “Reforms to the Law of the Executive Agency and with the fundamental purpose of ensuring andcomply with the human right to a healthy and ecologically balanced environment. Environmental policy promotes the strengthening of dialogue instances and summons society as a whole to participate in the process of consolidating institutionality in environmental management;defines and promotes the incorporation of new mechanisms of action to give sustainability to environmental management;strengthens institutionality in environmental and natural resources;considers what to make of the entities, mainly of the government, through the coordination and rectory of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
Politics seeks to be inclusive: it takes into account existing diversity and culturality;It requires the strategies, programs and actions that must be addressed to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants, guaranteeing their operation in all heterogeneous spaces and contexts;maintains and encourages productive activity that contributes to recipient poverty levels at the national level.
This policy is inferred from the problems that affect the quality of life of the Guatemalans;The negative impacts that generate economic and productive processes in the environment, the introduction of new consumption and technological patterns, the forms of use of existing natural resources in the country and population growth;This policy defines the course by which Guatemalan society must travel to achieve sustainable development. In close coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in its capacity as a governing entity, will give priority to the generation of renewable energy in its different modalities: water, geothermia, wind, solar and biomass.
Therefore, regarding Guatemala’s environmental policy, although it seeksThe problem of sound or auditory pollution. Therefore, that the current authorities of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources should make a reform of the agreement of the Environmental Policy of the Republic of Guatemala, and where the problem of sound and auditory pollution is included in it, and developthe strategic actions, programs and actions to be developed in the same.
Therefore, the Environmental Education Policy in Guatemala will find its efforts to build and develop an education for environmental action, at the national level in the promotion of roots, identity and belonging relations as a fundamental principle for the self-management of communities in theImprovement of your environment.
