The debate over immigration in the United States has prompted Americans to question the right of Latinos to migrate into the country. Over the past thirty years, immigrants came to America because of dangerous conditions in other countries and American culture has seen a shift in Latino influence in food, activities, speaking, etc. (Public Broadcasting Service).
Latinos in Central America migrated to the United States due to political turmoil, wars, and basic life needs (Public Broadcasting Service). Political upheavals lead Latinos to find new opportunities and engage in new territories for safety. The United States offered hope and a new identity. Latino Immigrants hoped to forge a better way of life through new living conditions with more financial resources and food sources (Public Broadcasting Service).
When Latinos arrived in the United States, competition for resources occurred among various immigrant groups due to preconceived notions of immigration (Public Broadcasting Service). American citizens were hesitant of Latinos taking away financial resources by obtaining employment with low wages and low-cost housing options. Latinos were not interested in competition, needed to escape dangerous living conditions, and inclined to adopt Latino Culture within the United States (Public Broadcasting Service).
