Should the Use of Camera Phones Be Banned in Gymnasiums or Other Locations?
Claims Made
Privacy Violation Claim
Camera Phones Should Be Prohibited in Gymnasiums and Other private recreation locations. It is because they raise the likelihood of breaching privacy since any unconsented photographs are illegal. In the current technological sphere, having a camera phone means an individual owns a camera, a computation system and has internet services available. These features ease the capture and sharing of pictures. With the advent of social media, such photos are easy to deliver to individuals of ulterior motives. As such, the use of camera phones is harmful.
Industrial Espionage Claim
Other than the breach of privacy in these institutions, there is also the issue of espionage. Foreign governments and other industrial players may take under their employ individuals tasking them to supply with information. Also, government agencies dealing with sensitive matters of the state, such as the military, have in place policies restricting camera phone usage. For such, use of camera phones eases access to private and classified information such as designs and strategy documents. The result is sthe prohibition of camera phones use within the institutions.
Legislation Claim
In the year 2003, there was a federal law passed seeking to control camera phone use. In the Video Voyeurism Prevention Act, photography without consent is punishable by a jail term (Solove & Schwartz, 2015).

Wait! Errors in Reasoning paper is just an example!

In places where people are expected to uphold privacy, individuals may pretend to be chatting or playing video games as a cover to their photo taking. This opens up the frontier of privacy invasion. Legislation regulates such.
Individual Risk Claim
It is also argued that use of camera phones raises individual risk. This happens especially when there is need to document daring acts. Individuals wishing to capture their prowess in driving may make use of their camera hones seeking to carry out the two tasks at once. This, however, may result in a grisly accident on the roads or other places. Also, there are some who pose in animal arks aiming at capturing the image of the wild animals in the background. This involves a risk of attack due to aggression especially when there is proximity.
Arguments for Reasoning Errors
Unsupported Generalization Error on Privacy Violation Claim
This error is hinged on the reasoning that applies certain specific facts to a wider and broad generalization without justification (Freeman, 2016). The fact that there have been individuals taking photographs in gymnasiums and other public localities should not mean that all individuals will do so. This is a generalization aimed at attaching the behavior of a specific individual onto the many. Such generalization raises an error in reasoning.
Cause and Effect Error on Industrial Espionage Claim
In this, the error lies in assuming that something happens as a result of another (Freeman, 2016). However, it is usually coincidental. Arguing against the use of private phones because of industrial espionage is a cause and effect error. This is because there is an assumption that being in a facility with a camera phone will automatically result in spying. However, this is false. A spy is developed by another player with stealth, and it is not random.
Cause and Effect Error on Legislation Claim
Additionally, violation of privacy results from a few individuals non-compliant with the law. Such should not be a basis for banning the use of camera phones since it poses an error in reasoning. This is because it has the eventual effect of hurting those positively using it such as family members capturing photos of each other. Instead, governments should take an initiative of teaching people the best ways to harness this technology other than banning it. Individuals, currently, carry camera phones everywhere they go. The more restrictive the legislation becomes, the more the opportunities to abuse them.
Unsupported Generalization Error on Individual Risk Claim
It is also apparent that assuming the use of camera phones predisposes an individual to danger has an associated error in reasoning. This is because it is based on the based on a belief that individuals are collectively irresponsible and thus bound to act in dangerous ways. However, not all are like that. Though persons under peer influence to showcase their escapades are poised to act daringly, they do not represent the whole population. They are just a specific group, and as such, their choice of lifestyle should not be used to curtail the use of camera phones for the rest.
