Ethnic Violence
According to the World Health Organization, violence can be described as the intentional use of physical power, actual or threatened, against a group or community, against oneself, or another person, which may result to injury, death, poor development, psychological harm, or deprivation (“WHO | Definition and typology of violence”, 2018). In a case where A group of religious factions inside a nation wants their own separate homeland where the government considers the only source of clean water clearly depicts conflict of interests which if not properly handle open doors for bigger conflicts leading to violence. In this scenario, violence can definitely be avoided since both the government and the religious people have genuine concerns for their stand.
It is important for both parties to understand the point of conflict which in this case is a national water resource on a piece of land which the religious groups want to inhabit. Secondly, invoking the overriding interests helps reduce the intensity of the conflict that involves working together towards a bigger goal. Thirdly, both parties should emphasize legitimacy which entails explaining why each perspective is so very important. In addition, it may be of great significance to keep the issue, and the power each has proportion. The government sometimes emphasizes their power during conflicts but in this scenario that may only add to the conflict. The government should also consider creating distance with the religious group to avoid the conflict reaching the violence stage.

Wait! Ethnic Violence paper is just an example!

This case is a matter of social justice hence the minority always tend to have self-determination to bring down giants. Lastly, a decision should be made according to the arguments tabled rather than who has the power. This makes it easier to resolve a conflict and prevent violence. In conclusion, all violence can be avoided with the right amount of effort put in resolving the conflict. Humans “will always have conflicts” but violence is a choice that can be avoided.
