Experiences and Challenges of an Immigrant Nanny in the US
Student’s Name
Institution Affiliation
The proposed topic is the experiences and challenges that immigrant nannies face in the US.
The topic is relevant to our class because it touches certain aspects that relate to women and gender. Majority of nannies are women who also constitute a very large invisible workforce which is expanding in the US as the population grows. The term invisible is used because many of them usually are undocumented immigrants. The survey conducted by the “University of Illinois found that over a third of domestic workers are here illegally” (Yousef, 2013). As a result of that, they are normally exploited or abused. In most cases, they earn less compared to their peers, more likely to get injured on their jobs or less likely to complain or quit.
The topic interests me because many parents often benefit from the help of nannies yet they nannies face unique challenges which need to be addressed. Some parents bring nannies to the US on a tourist visa which doesn’t allow them to work. They end up encouraging them to overstay the visa and work illegally, creating legal problems for them. These are some of their realities that have not been addressed adequately by previous studies. Immigrant nannies and domestics have been placed in the shadows by avoiding the issues that surround employee rights, childcare needs, safety, and health problem.
I’m interested in learning about the experiences and the challenges of an immigrant nanny in the US, considering the anti-immigration sentiments exhibited before and after 9/11.

Wait! Experiences and challenges of an immigrant nanny in the united states paper is just an example!

I’m also interested in investigating how the conditions in which nannies usually work reproduce race, ethnic, gender and class privileges, reinforce the already existing social stratification and blur the ideological contradictions of justice and inequality in the American Dream.
