Modern societies are loaded with formal associations or vast secondary gatherings that take after unequivocal tenets and methodology to accomplish particular objectives and errands. This paper will focus on families as social groups and how they have recently evolved.
Earlier in the days, cases of divorce were uncommon. The women were considered as homemakers while men were seen as breadwinners. Most women were married at that time with a minuscule percentage being unmarried.
The family unit in the 21st century depicts massive weaknesses in addition to the moral structure showing the society is in trouble. Divorce rates in the US have risen with a current standing of about 50% (Hughes, Robert). In today’s world, the family unit seems to take on an entirely new meaning with the norm being single parents. Current statistics indicate that out of 10 black mothers, 7 of the do not have husbands to aid in raising their children. Children who are brought up by a single parent have a higher probability of dropping out of high school, become single parents among others.
The divorce rate has been on the rise due to increased presence of women in the workforce thus reduction of reliance on their husbands (Hughes, Robert). Therefore, women can quite unhappy marriage since they can sustain themselves. Secondly, divorce has turned out to be more acceptable. The guilt and blame of the old divorce laws are no more. Throughout the years it has gotten to be simpler and less demanding for couples to end up separated and after that divorced on account of law changes.
