According to an article by NIH (n.d) attention –deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an intellectual condition defined by characteristics of inattention and hyperactivity which interferes with normal growth and functioning. ADHD being a neurobehavioral disorder parent can report on the situation via their observed feedback. Disparities were re-observed between multiracial children where African Americans portrayed low levels of the disorder while Mexican American children had an increased probability of acquiring ADHD compared to non-Hispanic white children (Froehlich et. al., 2007). The data proves they may be a possibility that combining races leads to increased risks of acquiring ADHD at birth as a result of genetic susceptibility, the presence of causal factors as well as differences in identifying symptoms across their cultures.
ADHD seems to be an American disorder since the country expresses it more than other countries. America can the identify ADHD at an early stage thus establishing prevalence rates. The US is more vocal on the disorder; therefore, people can recognize it and add to the prevalence rate, unlike other nations where people lack knowledge of the same. Inability to recognize ADHD decreases recording of disorder hence making America seem like the country with leading ADHD prevalence. The US states display disparities among its states where western regions have low rates while Midwest and southern areas exhibit high rates (Holland & Riley, 2018).

The differences occur because some states have high rates of treatment for ADHD using medications. States may be exhibiting high rates of ADHD as a result of them having new incidences that fail to acquire medication. Although most cities have Mayo clinic, prevalence rates of ADHD are high since people fail to seek interventions, due to the belief that ADHD is inexistent (Foley, 2018). Lack of firsthand experience with ADHD may be another reason for its high rates in cities. Misconceptions on the causes of ADHD lead to its prevalence as people fail to understand how to intervene in the situation.
