Q3: Nonprofits Controversy Article
The Cancer Fund of America receives millions of donations for cancer patients. In 2015, the organization’s president was accused of misusing nearly $200 million donated to cancer charities (Ruiz 1). As opposed to channelling the money to help patients, healthy friends and relative running the various groups in this organization enjoyed donated funds. By defrauding funds meant for cancer patients, the institution violated the ethical standards of financial transparency, integrity, and respect for communities. Personally, I believe in acting honestly and with integrity in all deals and transactions. The organization and its affiliated charities embezzled funds for personal gain, which violates my ethical expectations of honesty and financial integrity. Two of the charities involved in the scandal agreed to settle the charges (Ruiz 1). The government dismissed two foundations that decided to pay the charges and proceeded with litigation against the other two together with their leaders.
