Response To The Theme Gender And Sex
Gender and sex play a controversial role in literature with different authors approaching the theme in a vast perspective. This is equally seen in the novel by Ovid, the Metamorphoses. In the book, the author draws on the literary tradition of Greek and Roman culture to identify his readers with the theme of gender and sex. Similarly, the expression of gender and sex is seen in the Washington Post article by Margaret Sullivan, who describes the sexual harassment of women in the publishing industry. Therefore, in the context of this essay, will focus on the similarities and contrast represented by the two literature work towards the expression of gender and sex.
In the Margaret Sullivan’s article, she clearly demonstrates gender and sex biases in the publishing industry through the tale of Moira Doregan. The storyline depicts a rotten society that shows fewer concerns of the girl child by upraising their inflictions as well as trying to shut their voices. In a similar account, Ovid captures the issue of gender and sexuality through the treatment of women by men in the stories. In Oval book, women are degraded and are treated like objects that are just there for show (Ovid 132). In a similar ideology, the article by Sullivan claims that women working within sales, marketing and publicity are most at risk as she states male authors and senior men in the position of powers are among the perpetrators of sexual harassment (Sullivan 1).

Wait! gender and sex paper is just an example!

On the contrary, Ovid’s approach to gender and sex is slightly unique compared to that of Sullivan article. That is, Oval discusses gender and sex in the context of ancient literature and its manifestation on women’s roles towards power while the Washington Post article focuses on the gender depiction in the work environment.
