Oahu Hawaii BiomeI live in Oahu Hawaii, an island in North America occupying a total area of 1,545.4km2 (Pau). Mixed and temperate broadleaf forests occupy a significant proportion of the land whereas a smaller portion has savanna, shrublands as well as tropical and subtropical grasslands. The land has good soil that supports plant growth. At the same time, the excellent climatic conditions contribute to the vast greenery in this area as the plants receive adequate rainfall to survive each year. Some of the most common plants in the island include the colorful shampoo ginger, bamboo orchid, blue butterfly bush, air yam and palm grass. The seeds of the air yam plant undergo a period of dormancy before germination which is perceived as an evolutionary adaptation that guarantees the availability of viable seeds when canopy covers break in the forest (Smithsonian Marine Station). More so, the bamboo orchid blooms very quickly to allow it to survive in disturbed habitats where it breeds mostly.
