The results obtained in regards to human resources show that most employees become discouraged in their jobs. The employees failed to perform to their level best due to some issues that were not addressed by the management. Communication breakdown was common during the game. Employees also failed to perform as expected due to recruitment issues. The company had employed some employees that were not qualified for the different roles that the performed, and this had a significant contribution to the poor results obtained. The management did not reward employees that performed better than others, and this demotivated the employees more.
The mistakes that the management made in the human resources function is that it employed some workers that did not meet the selection criteria. These employees failed to perform as they did not understand their roles well and this had a great impact on results. Another mistake done is the failure to train its employees. Training is important as it helps increase knowledge and skills which could be lacking. The management also failed to take steps when employees communicated their concerns (Teece, 2010). This situation caused employees to be discouraged from raising issues that they came across with when working. This situation meant that the management failed to realize problems before they occurred. The mistake that the management made is the failure to compensate employees based on performance since it discouraged the highly performing employees.
Corporate compliance/ethics is a critical function of management. It must ensure that employees behave in an ethical manner. Ethical standards have to be maintained to ensure that the company is ethical. The company has to establish a code of ethics to ensure that the employees abide by these rules. Ethical companies can succeed since the society appreciates such companies by purchasing their products as well as services.
The results obtained from corporate compliance/ethics is that the company’s employees failed to behave in an expected manner. Some employees were disrespectful to colleagues and customers. Further, employees were doing things that are unacceptable by the company. Such things include stealing the company’s products and other behaviors that are unacceptable.
The mistake that was made is that the company failed to write down the ethical conduct for employees. These employees did not know what is ethical or unethical and therefore they ended up doing whatever they felt like doing. This situation has made the company to have its employees accused of being unethical. The company has faced various lawsuits in the past, and this has made the company to pay many fines which tend to decrease the revenues for this company (Verbeke, 2013).
Company4 ought to have done things differently from what the management did. In regards to the human resources function, the company would have employed staff members who have a passion for their jobs and those that qualify for their positions. Selection of employees is an important role that needs to be given much weight since the type of employees selected to determine the success of an organization. Further, it would have provided a safe environment to work to prevent workplace injuries. Communicating with employees would have been a key priority to ensure that employees get the attention that they deserve. Communicating with employees would have ensured that the company was informed about things that would be unhealthy. Proactive actions would have been taken to prevent harmful things from occurring. It would have been necessary for the management to ensure that all employees understood their roles. This step is important as it ensures that every employee performs roles without confusion. Company4 would have ensured that employees are always rewarded and encouraged when they perform well so as to motivate them to increase efforts. Training would have been critical to ensuring that employees have the knowledge and skills to perform their roles (Teece, 2010).
In regards to the corporate compliance/ethics, a code of conduct is the first thing Company4 could have written. This document would ensure that employees know how they are expected to behave so that ethics can be maintained. Company4 ought to have explained these rules and regulations clearly so that employees understand what they need to do so that they avoid unethical behavior. The employees were supposed to be trained on all laws that they must abide to prevent possible lawsuits. It was necessary for the company to elaborate punishments for those that do not comply with the ethical standards (Verbeke, 2013).
There are factors that prevented Company4 from pursuing a different strategy. The management of the company has many executives involved. This large number prevents the management from making quick decisions since everyone must be consulted. This situation prevented the management from selecting an appropriate strategy that could have led the company to success. Resources were also an issue with this company. A strategy requires that the company devotes some money to ensure that the strategy is successful. The company was not ready to commit more resources to another strategy before seeing the success of another. Some of the company’s managers are slow in taking actions, and this prevented the company from implementing a different strategy. The company failed to do research on other to identify what other companies do. It is vital to ensure that the company knows what other successful companies do. This strategy could have assisted the company to have ideas and therefore have a different approach (Teece, 2010).
Working with the team made me learn many things about the operations of a company that I did not know. Working with the team made me realize that most the decisions that are made in a firm have to ensure that everyone has participated in making the strategy a success. The human resource department is one of the most crucial departments in Company4, and it played a critical in making sure that the company succeeded. The Human Resources ensured that the individuals who were recruited were skilled enough to ensure that they have performed their roles diligently. The Human Resources also increases the commitment of the employees and also motivating them through various strategies to achieve a competitive advantage that sustainable.
One of the lessons that I learned through working with the team is that investing in the people is one of the major ways that one can use to increase the value of a company. Further, it was true that the approach led to achieving better results through the combination of opportunity and resources thus achieving a strategic fit. Another lesson that I learned throughout the game was that performance management is very crucial to the success of an organization. At this point, various processes in a firm are developed in the various area of an organization such as the growth and profitability, customer service, quality, and productivity. Reduction of the layers of management is another approach that gives outstanding results to the company, and they are initiated by the human resource management. The move is aimed at increasing the level of flexibility of the job descriptions as well as reliance on the team in disseminating information and working. The approach was effective, and it contributed to the creation of behavior that was self-regulated for the team of employees of Company4 (Teece, 2010).
The experience at the Company4 made me learn that the involvement of the employees in decision making was important for the success of the company. The involvement of the team in decision-making processes and engaging their views creates a mutual understanding. The mutual understanding is achieved by making sure that the people are managed properly. Another lesson that I obtained from experience is that for an organization to succeed, there is a need or the organizational strategy to the HR strategy. High-commitment and high-performance are imperative for the success of an organization. The commitment aspect of the human resources is aimed at forging a good relationship between the organizational goals and the goals for the employees. Additionally, the human resources are tasked with creating a good relationship with the employees so as to make sure that the employees realize that they are important stakeholders of the company. Recognizing the contributions that are made by the employees and appreciating them regularly through compensation, rewarding, and promotion is one of the ways that will ensure that they have worked tirelessly to make sure that an organization has achieved its goals.
Business planning is another lesson that I have learned in the simulation that is critical to the success of an individual in work environment. The planning includes making sure that the right employee match is made in an organization and procedures of making the decision have been defined clearly. The human resource planning ensures that human resources have been distributed efficiently. The human resource is involved in the aspect of talent management. Benefits authorities can lessen the expenses of the firm that are linked with the turnover of the employees, steady loss, and the enrolment of the employees who will be working part-time. This knowledge is important for the success in the field of management. This knowledge can change the course one’s career in management (Verbeke, 2013).
Some of the roles that are played by the human resource managers like the training of the employees and advancement through new employee orientation, a move that is important in the creation of a good relationship. The HR likewise engages in preparing and backings the organization’s reasonable business practices and employee advancement get ready striving for leaders for supervisory and administration parts. These are some of the aspects that are applicable in the work environment a future date. Company4 had streamlined the organization to the extent that the employee underwent proper orientation to ensure that they have functioned in a way that is acceptable.
Another aspect that I learned is the role of HR in making sure that the laws and regulations formed by the government are followed strictly. The HR guarantees that a firm adheres to government or state work laws. These are important lessons that one can apply to the work environment that they hold (Teece, 2010).
Ethics compliance is a crucial aspect of a company, and I learned the crucial role that they play in a company. Ethics in an organization create and boost the credibility of an organization. They ensure that public has started to view a firm as being driven by good moral values and ought to be respected. These are aspects that are important for an individual to hold as they apply in a work environment. Other aspects of ethics that can be applied in the future work environment is the emphasis on the social responsibility and proper corporate governance. Ethics are good in on organization because they do improve decision making. The decision made are expected to be driven by values and maintain fair competition rather that lacking values and driving competitors out of the market. These are crucial lessons that I learned, and I am sure that they will help me in work environment.
