The Haiti earthquake of 2010 is one of the most devastating humanitarian disasters of recent time. Playing the role of an aid worker in the simulation, the crisis exposed me to some of the most problematic aspects of disaster management. Typically, I realized that preparedness goes beyond having infrastructure; it entails subjective alertness to make quick decisions that mitigate the damage (Inside Disaster, 2010). One wrong decision can trigger multiple failures. While the presence of parameters made the simulation a bit artificial, the overall experience had a substantive touch of reality. The interaction between the various elements (people and objects) resembles what happens in real life.
The purpose of this simulation is to give the players a sense of what happened during the earthquake. It targets the people who did not have a first-hand experience of the disaster. Through the simulation, valuable lessons can be learned which can be applied in the future. From a personal perspective, the activity does fulfill its aim (Inside Disaster, 2010). This simulation is mainly realistic because of the inclusion of original footage, real-life narrations, and photographs. However, there is a slight mismatch between the tone and the scenes which if eliminated, could have made the experience more educative.
Natural disasters such as quakes leave a trail of destruction that can only be managed through international intervention.

Brunei and Bhutan are prone to earthquakes because of their location (Shah et al. 2018). If a similar disaster struck, an aid worker is likely to experience the same hitches as the ones in Haiti. Possibly, the numbers will be overwhelming, piling more pressure that may force wrong decisions or indecisiveness. At the same time, global intervention is inevitable. Although the demographics are not similar to those of Haiti, disaster response and management is a complex activity that cannot be handled without external assistance.
