Introduction

The tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, is one of the great monuments of Western literature. The work, written by Shakespeare between 1599 and 1601 and set in medieval Denmark, addresses the issue of revenge. Hamlet and that medieval Denmark have much to teach us about the need for an independent justice administration system.

Hamlet is depressed. His father, the king of Denmark, has just died. His mother, the queen, marries Claudio, who becomes the new king. But, as the work shows, revenge is complicated and expensive. First, in the absence of a specialized research and proof system, Hamlet takes too long because he doesn’t know how to discover the truth.

Second, revenge is carried out by an inexperienced and improvised person. Hamlet says about himself than the little used hand has the most delicate sensitivity. Third, the avenger, who is a judge in his own cause, tends to magnify the damage and to seek disproportionate punishment, because, in the words of one of the avengers of the work, revenge should not have limits.
