Critical Thinking
An emergency department is a department within a hospital organization responsible for immediate care for patients such as surgical care and medical attention. The critical conditions that are handled in an emergency department include cardiac arrest, heart attack, trauma, and asthma. Within this department, nurses and physicians are always in a hurry to attend to every patient because the number of reported critical cases in a hospital is always high. This means that they have to be ready at all times and busy (Wright, April, Raymond, Zammuto, and Peter 205). This is a work environment that can be strange to an outsider because he or she may not understand the medical language being used and the interpersonal communication that takes place.
