Health Security as It Relates To My Education Specialty Track
My area of specialty in nursing is education. It is an area where learners are required to gain more insights into the nursing practice to ensure that appropriate knowledge is acquired and applied in routine operations in healthcare facilities. Since the healthcare workforce is continually growing, there is a proportionate high demand for instructors or nurse educators to educate the incoming generation of nurses. For such a case, there is a need for learners specializing in nurse education to advance their clinical training through the use of modern information technology to cope up with the world’s emerging trends. In particular, the health IT topic of the week which I selected and is related to my specialty track is health security.
Health security is one of the areas of healthcare which requires careful consideration to build as well as sustain resilient and healthy societies around the world (Maheux, 2017). I chose this topic because it focuses on the approaches to enhance changes to the nursing healthcare environment. Globally, there has been an increasing concern because of the expanding number of data breaches involving large medical records. Health security also encompasses the protection of information as well as information systems from unauthorized disclosure, disruption, access, use, destruction, and modification.

As such, this topic relates to specialty because one of the core areas of education is to advance the knowledge of the future generation of nurse practitioners.
The selected topic impacts my practice by highlighting the need to include health security in learning institutions so that learners can be able to observe the requirements for privacy, confidentiality, and integrity. Although health security broadly entails the initiatives to safeguard the health of people to help to keep the world prepared, in IT the concept is different since it emphasizes on the steps to follow a standard set of requirements by various laws or regulations to safeguard health records from unauthorized access and viewing. Primarily, this is a new trend in nursing which significantly impacts my area of specialty since every aspect of life is sophisticating with everything becoming technical (Lakoff & Collier, 2008). In such a way, the use of IT in nursing education helps in ensuring the adoption of a comprehensive health situational awareness.
