Over recent years, there have been numerous plights that have concentrated on the need of preserving bees. Teresa Scollon in her essay “Hive Talkin’: The Buzz around the Town about Bees” pleads to her audience and the public in general regarding the need to preserve bees. In the essay, Scollon attempts to educate the audience on various aspects in regards to bees. This information will prove to be vital in her plea to preserve the bees. Scollon makes use of emotional and logical appeals effectively as a way of getting the audience attention in relation to the overall issue. In addressing the audience in her essay, Scollon uses an appealing voice. The appeal is directed towards her audience as a way of making the audience know of the dangers of not preserving bees. Scollon does this by way of an argument. The essay is not just a report on bees but argues what will happen if the bees are not well maintained. According to Scollon, bees are a key factor in ensuring there is adequate food through their involvement in pollination (Scollon 242).
In support of her argument, Scollon uses a number of rhetorical appeals. One of the appeals includes logical appeals where she examines different statistics in regards to bees. Scollon points out to a number of studies performed by different individuals and institution regarding bees. In addition to logical appeals, Scollon also makes use of emotional appeals. The emotional appeals are meant to draw an emotional reaction from the audience.
