In every setting where humans operate, there is need to have a safe environment. The school setting just like any other place, the school requires constant monitoring and assessment of health and safety of those occupying the school environment. Changing populations demand continued reviewing of existing health and safety risk assessments as well as having an expert review the current assessment on health and risk (Shields).
In conducting health and safety assessment in a school setting, those who have the mandate of undertaking the procedures must work according to an already existing outline. Evaluation occurs as per existing structures. Some of the structures that make monitoring of health and safety risk in a school setting are a policy statement, insurance cover, a legal framework, and standard operating procedures among many other formations a school may adopt. A policy statement should outline the responsibilities of various actors tasked with ensuring good health and safe environment in a school. Any assessment structure implemented in a school should reflect the spirit of national laws on workplace safety and health (Shields).
From time to time, any of the configurations adopted by a school needs to get reviewed. The reasons for reviewing may be as a consequence of population increase, change of workers, admission of new students, and government recommendations.

Each day new health concerns emerge as well as risks; it is upon the school administration to keep assessment procedures up-to-date. Legislatures all around the globe keep making new laws and some of the laws touch on health and safety in the school setting. Apart from the outlined reasons for review, a school must have a formal review structure for health and safety (Shields).
Monitoring and reviewing are processes that are integral to maintaining health and safety in any environment. The processes are not easy to conduct, but they are always worth the trouble. Ensuring health and safety in the school environment translates to reduced accidents and injuries, and maybe improved performance for the organization.
